IGBAJA CDS MEETING HELD ON THE 21st March,
2019.
The CDS meeting started at 9:45am with the NYSC anthem and
prayer was taken by Corper Oluwaseun (Papa). The last meeting minutes was read
by the General Secretary (Corper Blessing) and the minutes was adopted by
Corper Opeyemi and Seconded by Corper Ifeoluwa.

CDS Schedule
The president (Corper Thank-God) said the
first week of the month will have no CDS since it would be the clearance week.
He said the Second week would be for Outreaches, educative talk and Sanitation.
The week three he said would be for pep talks amongst corpers. He said the corp
member to present would be informed ahead of time, he also said it will be
posted on the various social media platforms so that corpers would come with
their questions. He said the week four would basically be for projects
implementation and reports.
Corper Ronah Isreal asked what was meant by
practical implementation, and the president (Corper Thank-God) said what he
meant was that instead of talking all through, it would be a day to work on the
projects pratically. The president (Corper Thank-God) emphasized that the first
week will be free except on an emergency.

The social director (Corper
Opeyemi) at 10:03am was called upon to talk about the social matters, he
reminded the house of the previous discussions of the send forth for Batch B
(stream 1 & 2). He said he was proposing a dinner party. He said It would strictly
be for the outgoing batch but whoever was interested would be allowed to
attend. Corper Akpeze (RSM) asked for clarity about how the events would look
like. The Social director (Corper Opeyemi) said it would not just be drinks and
food. He said there would be programs also which would not be disclosed fully.
Corper Akpeze suggested that a breakdown of budget be done first. The Social
director (Corper Opeyemi) said he couldn’t have done that as the proposed
program had not be approved as at then, and that would be done when a committee
would be created. Corper Reuben said that the dates for POP (passing out
parade) of the different streams were different, so he asked how it would be
done. The Social director (Corper Opeyemi) said since the dates of POP is about
a month interval from each other, he said doing it together would make things
easy. The Social director (Corper Opeyemi) asked if the proposal had been
approved and the Batch B members present agreed to the idea. He said a 5-man
committee would be created. Corper Blessing said it would not be necessary to
spend all the time discussing the dinner that the committee should be left with
the task of planning the program and giving the house a feedback next week.

The Social Director said the committee would
meet and get back to the house on the matters concerning venue, time, date,
dress code etc.
The President (Corper Thank-God) gave a recap
on the CDS schedule. Corper Lateef asked about the letter for financial support
and the CDS president replied that the letters were ready but he intended to
show the letters to the new LGI first before distributing. He also asked how the
letters would be distributed and Corper Bassey said a person should represent
each PPA in the distribution of the letter. Corper Yemi said he would suggest
that the letters be distributed by the Excos alongside a Corper who works in
the PPA.
The president invited Corper Ifeoluwa to
talk about business at about 10:32 am. She said business is a profitable
enterprise. She said business makes you independent and it is a nice and
beautiful thing to always get bank alert. She said considering our country, it
was more efficient to go into business as it would cut down on depending on
white Collar jobs. She encouraged the house to let go off their ego and learn
skills. She summarised by saying that people should look deep into themselves
and discover gems (great qualities) in them. She also said passion is key that
people should not go into things they didn’t have passion for. She also
encouraged those who are into business to learn more about those skills. She
ended by encouraging for legitimate businesses. Corper Lateef asked for the
capital needed to start up a bag making business and the duration of learning.
She replied by saying that once you had a sewing machine, the amount was as low
as ₦5000
and the duration was dependent on the person, as she could at attest to someone
who learnt under her for two weeks and was doing well in Ilorin at that time.
Corper Lateef asked for the training fee and She replied that it was 15K.
Corper Mayowa asked If the fee could be reduced and She (Corper Ifeoluwa) said
it could be but, the materials would be provided by the student.
The CDS president asked someone to talk
about life after NYSC and Corper Tomisin volunteered.
Corper Tomisin encouraged the house to
depend on God first and foremost. He said that during job interviews that what
mattered was not necessary our qualifications but what we are able to offer.
The CDS president (Corper Thank-God) added that the difference you put into
something makes you stand out from all others even when it’s the same thing.

the seminary with a discount for Corp members.
Corper Hussienat asked for clarity concerning the statement
of account information and the Ifelodun Gen Sec (Corper Ifeoluwa) replied that
the request for statement was not restricted to any batch but for everyone. She
also said it cuts across all Corp members in Kwara. The Gen. Sec. (Corper Ifeoluwa)
talked about the new LGI and said she believed he was a good person and asked
Corper Mayowa and Corper Hussienat to testify to that as their PPAs were
visited by Him, which they did.
For the projects the CDS president (Corper Thank-God) talked
about the flagposts, be said four flags would be gotten and the estimated price
for one was about ₦1200 - ₦1500.
For the toilets, he said there were about five (5) toilets,
but only two (2) would be worked on as it is currently in a very bad shape. He
said they would be converted to a modern pit toilet, one for males and one for
females.
For the painting of the Secretariat, he (CDS President) said
the house will be divided into groups as those who are good or intended learning
would have the opportunity to work.
Concerning the waste bins, he said that a way would be
sought on how to make the basket stable and a bag be used alongside for easy
disposal.
For the fine for absentees, the president asked the house
what the suggested fee should be and Corper Paul asked what about cogent
reasons for absenteeism. The president replied that cogent reasons for absenteeism
would be allowed. Corper Blessing asked how we intended to collect the money as
some Corp members could be very hard and not Cooperative. The CDS president
(Corper Thank-God) said, the LGI would be involved as whoever refuses to pay
would not be cleared. Corper Tomisin suggested that ₦200 would be OK. Corper
Opeyemi said being absent twice could be pardoned But three times wouldn’t has
the person would have to face the LGI. Corper Bassey agreed with Corper
Opeyemi. Corper Biola said the idea was not favourable to him that all of us
were graduates and should know how to act.
Finally the president asked for votes on how many CDS a
person would have to miss before facing the LGI. It was agreed that 2 (two) CDS
consecutively would lead to Query from the LGI.
The Treasurer talked about the dues and stated that it
remained ₦100
per month, and it could be paid by instalment or as a whole. And that at the
end of the month, there would be an end of the month report.
At 11:39am the sports director (Corper Michael) appreciated
the football team and said he was glad with their improvements, He talked about
the match that day but said it had not be concluded and said that it will be a
no training, no match also for those not coming for practice.
Corper Abdullateef asked how the CDS would be since the schools
would be going on vacation, the CDS president said as concerning the Holiday, a
plan would be put in place.
Corper Ephraim suggested the president (Corper Thank-God) and Gen Sec
(Corper Ifeoluwa) discuss with the LGI on how the account statement could be
gotten from our email rather than going to Ilorin to get them.
The motion was moved for adjournment by Corper Bassey and
Seconded by Corper Malik.
The closing prayer was led by Corper Abdullateef. The CDS
meeting came to end at exactly 11:48am.
